"Hosting fine Swing and Lindy Hop Dancing in Boston since 1994"

Saturday, Feb. 5 at Huron Ave:
"Solomon Douglas Quartet"
Solomon Douglas' bands have played at countless exchanges, camps, workshops, worldwide. His experience as a swing dancer & instructor gives him an a unique understanding of the music that swing & blues dancers like to dance to! Expect a mixture of musical styles including blues, old-school swing, and groovy mainstream swinging jazz with tinges of bop and soul-jazz.

BEGINNER & INTERMEDIATE LESSONS THIS WEEK:
Featuring Special Guest Lesson , plus Karen Leeds
- Beginner with Karen Leeds
- Intermediate with Special Guest Instructor
(see below for more details about the lessons)

Dear Swing City Patrons!

This Week at Swing City: "Solomon Douglas Quartet"
SATURDAY at Huron Ave

We're very excited to have Solomon Douglas on stage tonight at Swing City. He's an extremely popular musician and dancer from the Boston area, and is flying in specially for us from Seattle where he's based now. This will be his first appearance at Swing City that I'm aware of, so please join us in welcoming him tonight!

Update On Our Schedule and Reorganization

As we noted last week, it's been clear for a while that Boston's scene is not big enough to supporting two swing dances on Fridays, especially within as close proximity. So we're readujusting Swing City's schedule to better suit the situation. In general, Swing City will be open at Huron Ave on the 1st Saturday, 3rd Friday, and 5th Saturday on months when there is one, in addition to periodic special events.

We've also bid farewell to the Somerville City Club, which has been a cool venue but unfortunately with just enough unsolvable problems to keep enough people away. Finding a good venue in Boston is really the crux of the problem that Swing City has suffered from since the original Huron Ave VFW was demolished. We'll be working on improving the vibe at Huron Ave further going forward.

Thanks everyone for your support as our journey continues...!

Dance lessons at Swing City

New to Swing Dancing or already an expert? No worries, we've got something for everyone!

A Special Guest Instructor will be teaching the intermediate lesson this week. Karen Leeds returns to teach the beginner class. Both are at 7:45. Classes have been HUGE lately, so be sure to come for those. Beginner and intermediate levels are concurrent, so you can find a class that suits you and still bring your friends who might be at a different level. Plus, the classes are a GREAT way to meet people if you're new to the scene.

Swing City, the best weekly Swingin' venues in town!

- Tons of free parking
- Ice Cold Air Conditioning
- Full Bar, ~$4 cocktails (at City Club venue only)
- Great Floors (one patron was giddy with excitement recently! thx)
- Easy "T" Access (at City Club venue only)

8:00pm: Beginner and Intermediate Swing Dance Lessons, no partner necessary.
9:00pm: Band goes on (DJ in the breaks)
until ~12:00am or when people leave

The great thing about the new intermediate lessons program is that the bulk of our regular dancers will be able to take a non-beginner class with our rotation of Boston's top dance instructors, while still being able to bring beginner friends for the intro lesson. The intro class will be single step East Coast, while the intermediate class will be taught in triple-step and sometimes will include some Lindy and more. The intermediate class will be different each week. Furthermore, if either lesson is too hard or simple for you, one can just switch to the other one as needed.

So please join us for lessons, a night of rich live music, dancing, affordable cocktails when we're at the City Club (yes, $4!), lots of cool fun people of all ages, and some great exercise. Bottom line, a great night out for only $15 ($10 with college ID), the cheapest cocktails in town, and a super vibe! Read, "Boston's official Cheap Date."
